After a design has been selected and approved, master crafts engrave it on metal objects (such as a tray or a bowl). This engraving is done manually and requires skill and patience often consuming many man hours. These objects are then either polished or plated with silver or nickel or 24-carat gold.

If a decision is taken to produce that object in huge quantity then a perfect dye for it is created by a master craftsman. An iterative process of creation and learning helps in perfecting the dye. Once master dye has been created, the object can be produced in bulk. The next step is surface finishing wherein a plethora of alternatives exist- enameling, buffing, plating, engraving, embellishing, damascening, ceramic-work and powder-coating.
